Edit: I’ve decided to call this song “Family & Tragedy” for now. I don’t have a title for this song yet as I just wrote it less than an hour ago. This is a made up story about a girl named Angela and her family… and tragedy. I’ll probably have to edit the lyrics a bunch before recording it in the studio, and also to make the story easier to follow.

Lyrics

her mother makes her lunch that day and stuffs it in her favorite blue lunchbox
her sister takes thirty minutes extra just to get her shit together
her father puts on the brown belt that she picked for him last winter
but he’s a little to big so he fixes it with a screwdriver

angela gets dropped off at school and her mother blows her some kisses
but she doesn’t even look because she know’s the whole worlds laughing, aren’t they?
she gets to piano class and her teacher surprises her with an exam
“hey, its not an A, but maybe it’ll get me out of here.”

baby keep your back straight
chin up, palms down
baby keep your head on straight
life’s little annoyances can sometimes make you frown
but keep your head up

it flies right by
it flies right by

her mother wakes her up an hour early because the puppy shredded all her school work
and her sister cries and cries about how she had to walk the doggie down the street.
her father isn’t even in, he’s at the inn down the street in a woman named roberta.

angela gets dropped off at school as her mother wipes away tears of knowing
saying “someone else will pick you up, i don’t know when i will be home tonight”
angela gets to her science class and they just watch “jurassic park” and eat some popcorn.
but a nauseating feeling consumes her.

baby keep your thoughts straight
chin up, palms down
baby keep your head on straight
life’s little suprises can sometimes make you frown
but keep your head up

it flies right by
it flies right by

her mother never comes home
and the police start a massive investigation and search around the town.
and her sister refuses to leave her boyfriend’s side until it all blows over.

angela can’t hide her hate from her father,
she feels it was all of his fault.
if he hadn’t been sneaking around with a random woman,
her mother would still be here.
how can she go on?

baby it’ll be okay
chin up, palms down
darling you can keep yourself together
when you lose somebody close, you cannot help but frown
but keep your head up

because she never really dies
she never really dies
she never really dies
she’ll never really die

angela, don’t you see?
this is not the end.
though she’s gone, you can always pretend…
everything here can’t get better here on out, don’t you know?
she’s never really gone inside your heart.
